For The Culture is inspired from artworks created by artist such as Kerry James Marshall, Hebru Brantley, Trenton Doyle Hancock, and James Jean. The checkerboard represent the illusions of how we are forced to play a game that is rigged for us to lose. While the branches are symbolized as being free from it.
