Fabric of Reality
Fabric of Reality is a piece that was born from me asking the question "Is there a certain level of noticeable destruction and repair that can happen for someone to say that it isn't art anymore?" and "if it is art is it an entirely new artwork created from its destruction or does its remain the same?" I began asking these questions after learning about the destructive history of the Last Supper Painting by Leonardo DaVinci. His artwork has been repaired numerous times by other artist with the purpose of keeping it the same.Is the artwork still the original thought, or has it now become a collaboration of many? Did the level of destruction that happened alter the meaning of the piece? With these questions in mind I took a canvas with a painting that did not go they way I wanted and painted over it with acrylic and oil paints. I then proceeded to destroy and mend it with embroidery yarn. But instead like how most art restorers repair artwork by making it seamless and hide the fact that the work has been repaired I wanted everyone to know the level of destruction that has happened and how even if I repaired it to the way it was, to me it wasn't the same art piece.
