Statement

Memories are something we all have, whether good or bad, they exist within every living thing. How do you take an intangible things like memories and create a form in space. Something that exists physically in space without being a replication of a specific memory or moment in time. Clay and fabric have been great mediums for creating these pieces that represent fleeting moments. Impressions if you will. In addition to these mediums, a new method has emerged in my work. A combination of polyester resin and fiberglass formed and fitted over a collection of casted body parts, or moments frozen in time. These pieces are then coated in a clear coat and covered with a photo transfer process that allows the presence of photos to be legible enough to acknowledge yet altered enough to prevent a viewer from trying to identify specific people in the photos. Allowing the viewer instead to connect with the works on a more intimate level. Experiences and encounters leave imprints on us and shape who we are, and this is how I approach the process of art making. Handling the materials in a way that leaves marks and imprints. In these ways the process of making these forms is just as much about memory as the forms themselves.
