Statement

My work seeks to reconcile Christian faith with natural science through religious iconography and scientific subjects. I explore topics like human evolution and dinosaurs in a religious context. I want to see bugs and creatures exalted like the martyrs. Far too often, I am told to ignore these subjects to be a Christian, or to ignore Christianity to believe in science. I am treading the middle ground, recording what I find in my imagery.

When I was a child, I longed for beautiful religious art of native animals and prehistoric scenes, something that the church would never ordain. So, I make it, both for personal fulfillment and to invoke thought in others. The most notable symbol I use is stained glass architecture. Common accompanying motifs are series of threes, crosses, haloes, and baptismal waters, which show up in any media.

Looking forward, I want to branch out from the direct religious symbolism and move in more nuanced channels of imagery. I am currently exploring writing music without musical notation, and then performing it live, mimicking worship and musical religious traditions.
